April Meet Up of Women of Dorset

Image
Women of Dorset undertake a lot of our work on line, whether it's in chat groups or Zoom meetings, so it's always good when we meet face to face. We try to meet roughly every four weeks and for the April meet up we talked about the upcoming Police and Crime Commissioner elections, Dorset Council elections and the by-election in BCP for the Canford Cliffs Ward and how we'd need to challenge candidates on sex based rights and safeguarding. There was also a lot of chat about other work we were undertaking, some of which you can see in the news articles that are also on the blog. For our next meet up we're going to Weymouth as we have few members in the west of Dorset.  The elections will have just been held, so we'll have a good idea of what we might be up against.

The Cass Review

Image
From Sex Matters:- The Cass Review final report is out! We think it is a big step forward, with multiple implications that will be hugely consequential. It demolishes the entire basis for the current model of treating gender-distressed children.  This means the end of paediatric gender medicine as we know it in England, and it will have global reverberations.    The report  makes stinging criticisms of NHS gender clinics, both adult and child, and the description of the Gender Identity Development Service is absolutely damning. Cass sometimes uses terminology – cisgender, assigned at birth, and  “trans females” that is inaccurate, unscientific and confusing. But that does not detract from the many important points she makes in this groundbreaking report.
